Visual journalists are reporters.
We research information, conduct interviews, write and edit both copy and captions. At the Post-Dispatch, I wrote stories for Sports, Healthy and Fit and contributed to P-D blogs on graphics, race relations in metro St. Louis and professional and amateur cycling in the region.
I published a travel story and slideshow at windycitizen.com about Spain as an affordable alternative spring trip destination.
Speaking Visually was a blog I created to provide a forum for the P-D graphics department to promote upcoming projects, address cool graphic programs, various media graphics of local, national and international stories, program tutorials and general stuff we liked.
I covered an interesting Social Media Marketing Symposium co-hosted by the Media Management Center and the Kellogg School of Management:
Authenticity, shilling and social media: How can traditional media monetize social media
I contributed to 10 Speed, a blog covering recreational and professional road cycling. I also collaborated with cycling coverage team members Kathleen Nelson and Dave Luecking on the P-D’s 2009 Tour of Missouri coverage on 10 Speed and stltoday.com’s Other Sports page.
I also contributed to stltoday.com’s A Conversation About Race blog through October 2009. The controversial blog took on the ongoing racial dialogue spiked by the election of the first black president and by diversity-charged stories on a local, national and global scale.
I’ve written stories and produced multimedia for the real estate and urban beats at Medill Reports-Chicago:
- Steady mortgage rates a plus, but housing slump seen continuing
- Back to the future for Bronzeville
